Photos and Videos, and More Photos!

Over the past three weeks, I have been running around taking hundreds of pictures and video clips for my project, through my IPod Touch and camera.

During the first two weeks, I focused on getting the testimonials done because I wanted to finish that before spring break. However, I came across a hurdle. After filming about five people, I was told by my friend that I should videotape people using the landscape orientation on my IPod Touch because if not, the video slides would have two black panels on the side- take a look at my "Lucky, My Cat" Video.

I realized that this was indeed a problem because after researching a bit, I found out that there is no way to change the orientation of the pictures after they are are shot! Armed with this new knowledge, I realized I had to retake the five testimonials. This put me back a few days, but I realized that in the end it would be worth it. If I had found out this information after taking all of my pictures, that would have definitely been a setback.

After that, I made a list of the pictures and video clips I would need for my video, and started making a schedule. Currently I have about one or two more pictures and video clips to shoot, before I start my video. In the meantime I have begun editing my pictures using an app called InstaText for the pictures on my IPod Touch.

I also came across another roadblock while shooting videos. For the few videoclips where I am talking, I initially put the camera on the top of a fence, on the window sill, and so on. Unfortunately, I realized that this, for the most part, wasn't working. Luckily my sister offered her helping hand in filming those few parts with me, and that worked out just fine. Yay!

Learning Windows Movie Maker

Over these past two days, I self-taught myself how to use Windows Live Movie Maker. I used the following websites:

Getting Started Tutorial- Windows Live Movie Maker (video)

As well, to test my knowledge, I made a short practice video about my cat Lucky. I spent about 4 hours editing it, but it was so fun and rewarding once I had watched the final outcome. Check it out!

Hello World!

I am Ruvini, and this will be my blog to record my process and reflections for my Genius Hour Project. So you might be asking, what is a Genius Hour Project? Well, it's a project on anything you decide, and you plan everything. Self-directed learning is becoming more common as society realizes that most learning happens when kids want to learn.
My Genius Hour Project is on my pursuit of happiness, because my passion in life is finding happiness. In my opinion, the way to happiness is finding a balance in life. Therefore, for my project I will be creating a video including five aspects of life which I believe create a balance in life. These five areas include determination, learning, active living, nature, and having fun. To make my video, the software I will be using is Windows Media Maker. This is my first time using this program, so first I have to learn the basic tools and techniques. I am very excited to get started with this project!
